Behind the Brand: Meet Rogdericka

 

 

Rogdericka Ellis is a proud native of New Orleans with a deep passion for empowering others. As a lifelong learner from the historic Upper Ninth Ward, Rogdericka combines her professional expertise, community spirit, and entrepreneurial drive to make a meaningful impact.

Currently, Rogdericka serves as a Reengagement Center Transition Advisor through New Orleans Youth Alliance, guiding and supporting opportunity youth—young people aged 16-24—on their paths to success. She is also a dedicated member of the Opportunity Youth Task Force, working to create better futures for the next generation. Beyond her professional commitments, she proudly wears the titles of big sister and aunt, roles that remind her of the importance of family and mentorship.

Rogdericka’s journey has been one of resilience and growth. After earning her equivalency diploma in 2012, she began her career as a Paraprofessional at the Youth Empowerment Project, helping aspiring students achieve their GED/HiSET diplomas. Her time with AmeriCorps and the Boys and Girls Club of Louisiana ignited a passion for education, eventually leading her to earn a B.S. in Elementary Education from Southern University at New Orleans and a C.G.S. from Delgado Community College.

In 2020, she brought her commitment to education into the classroom as a 5th-grade teacher at Morris Jeff Community School. Her dedication to adult and community education has earned her recognition as an alumna and ambassador in the field. She has shared her insights at national and international conferences, discussing the challenges and progress of New Orleans' education system in the years following Hurricane Katrina. Rogdericka’s accolades include the prestigious "Women Breaking Barriers in Literacy" award from One Book, One New Orleans, and serving as the 2023 Keynote Speaker at the 16th Annual Greater New Orleans Adult Education Graduation.

Rogdericka’s entrepreneurial spirit shines through Paradise Candles, the brand she founded to combine her love of fragrance and sustainability. With over seven years of experience in education and entrepreneurship, she infuses every candle with care, quality, and intention, creating products that resonate with customers around the world.

When she’s not shaping young lives or crafting exquisite candles, Rogdericka enjoys cooking, DIY projects, baking, traveling, spending time with loved ones, and giving back to her community.
